If you want to buy a home sometime this year, here are a few things to do to prepare for this important decision! Start preparing now.

Save 

Start saving for a down payment and for all the costs that come with buying a home.  Decide what percentage of a down payment you want for a home, and figure out how much your dream home will cost and how much you’ll need (and then add a little more, just in case). 

Create a budget and follow it strictly. Cut unnecessary costs each month and throw the rest into saving for your dream home. Find ways to increase your income. A great way to save money for your down payment is to automate the savings. Have a certain amount go from your checking to your savings each month, and then DON’T TOUCH THAT SAVINGS ACCOUNT! Then any time you have some extra money you didn’t spend, put it in that account too! Start adding to it like crazy! 

Good Credit

You’ll want to make sure to clean up your credit and keep it that way. If you want to buy soon, don’t open up any new lines of credit, just work with what you already have. Stay current on your payments and don’t overspend. And check with your Lender or Realtor “before” you pay off and close any revolving accounts.

Get Pre-Qualified

As you get closer to purchasing a home, get pre-qualified. This is a great thing to do before you start looking for homes. This can give you an idea of what price range to stay in and how much more money you’ll need to save up before looking. 

Find a Good REALTOR

Not all real estate agents are REALTORS. Finding a professional REALTOR, who is held to a higher standard of conduct, and with a track record of success, is extremely important. Start Looking

Once you feel like you have a handle on preparation, start looking at homes. Start with online searches, and then contact your REALTOR and start looking at homes in-person.
